Learning the chenda melam for my upcoming performance by Rajesh Dhruva required 15 days of practice.
Actor Rajesh Dhruva, who recently took on the challenge of learning to play the chenda melam, shared that it took him 15 days to master the traditional percussion instrument of Kerala. Making his Kannada film debut with Shri Balaji Photo Studio, Rajesh has teamed up with director Sukesh Shetty for his upcoming project titled Peter, centered around the chenda melam. Striving for authenticity, Rajesh dedicated time to grasp the basics of chenda playing and after two weeks of training, he gained the necessary skills. He also underwent weight loss training to resemble a chenda artist. In the movie, an effort was made to seamlessly blend folk music into the narrative to offer audiences a fresh and captivating cinematic experience. Rajesh emphasized the need to engage viewers in today's competitive film industry and acknowledged that he is still working on establishing himself firmly within the field. Despite his success in movies, Rajesh intends to continue acting in television to ensure a stable income, keeping his options open until he solidifies his presence in the film industry.
